Following careful monitoring of developments leading to the passage of the Affordable Care Act, we developed a multidisciplinary team, our Health Care Reform Steering Committee, composed of active employee benefit producers, compliance, legal, and management experts. We have used internal and external resources to analyze and comment on the Act and its implementing regulations. We utilized our resources to help us and our clients respond to the law's mandates and to chart an appropriate strategy thereto. We have developed numerous webinars and client presentations to discuss the implications of the Act for our clients and our own producers and service staff. We have also utilized our membership and leadership in several trade associations as additional resources; these have included the National Association of Health Underwriters, the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers; the Financial Services Roundtable, and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, and other industry and government organizations. We have also provided comments to those trade associations for filing with various federal agency rulemaking authorities, including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the Department of Labor (DOL).
We also engage the services of several acclaimed, national law firms to help answer the more esoteric questions, particularly where the law or implementing regulations are ambiguous.
Through our internal health care reform steering committee, we have distributed numerous and frequent Legislative Alerts, "BB&T Insurance Services Briefs," and various compliance updates from our vendor and TPA partners.
